Dental Crowns
When a tooth is too damaged for a filling, a dental crown restores how it looks and how it functions. At A to Z Dental, our dentists restore damaged teeth with crowns that fit the way they should, stay in place, and hold up under real, everyday use.
We rebuild the tooth so it works, feels, and looks like it belongs there.
What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are fixed prosthetic restorations made to restore a damaged tooth to its original shape and size. They’re permanently cemented on teeth that have cracked, extensively decayed, or otherwise been damaged. Although they sometimes extend down onto the root surface, crowns essentially replace the outer aspect of the “crown” part of a natural tooth, so it makes sense that the restorations are called “crowns.”
What the Process of Getting a Dental Crown Looks Like
- We start by understanding the tooth: We examine it, take digital X-rays, and use CBCT when needed to see what’s really going on
- We prepare the tooth: We remove what’s damaged and shape the tooth so the crown has a stable base
- We take precise digital scans: We use an intraoral scanner so the crown fits the way it should from the start
- We protect the tooth while it’s being made: We place a temporary crown so you can eat and function normally
- We place the final crown and fine-tune it: We adjust the fit and bite so it feels right before you leave
- We make sure it works outside the chair: Not just how it looks — how it feels when you eat, speak, and go through your day
Why Patients Choose Us for Dental Crowns
We stand behind the crown we place, so you’re not left dealing with the same issue again
We plan the fit, bite, and look upfront, so you know what to expect before the crown is placed
We shape and match each crown so it sits naturally among your teeth and doesn’t draw attention
We keep pricing within reach while using materials and labs we trust for long-term results
Types of Dental Crowns

Types of Dental Crowns
This is what most people mean when they say, “I don’t want it to look like dental work.”
- Looks like a real tooth, not a cap
- We match the shade using the Vita guide
- Keeps its color over time
- Strong enough for everyday use without metal
This is the practical option when strength and cost both matter.
- Built on a metal base for support
- Outer layer matched to your teeth
- Handles full chewing pressure
- More budget-friendly than full ceramic
We use these when the tooth needs something stronger that still looks right.
- Solid material that doesn’t crack easily
- Holds up under heavy use
- Less sensitivity to hot and cold
- Lets us preserve more of your natural tooth
When a Crown Is the Right Choice, And When It Isn’t
- More than half of the tooth is gone There isn’t enough structure left for a filling to stay secure
- Cracks that keep spreading A compromised tooth can continue to break down without reinforcement
- Teeth worn down over time Grinding, erosion, or structural defects can leave the tooth thin and vulnerable
- Front teeth that need full restoration When shape, color, and structure are all affected, a crown brings everything back into balance
- A loose tooth due to advanced gum disease If the tooth isn’t stable, a crown won’t solve the problem
- Not enough healthy structure to support it Sometimes another approach makes more sense long-term
- Active infection We address the underlying issue first, then rebuild
